YOUR NARRATOR

Jane Bliss
Jane is an Anglo-Norman scholar. Anglo-Norman is an insular dialect of Old French. The language brought to England by the conquerors in 1066 quickly became influenced by the native English, most noticeably in rare items of vocabulary. Less noticeably, when read aloud, its syntax and the shape of phrases seem to fit English speech rhythms better than French. This is hard to pin down. However, there are some typical Anglo-Norman spellings, by which one can more reliably identify where a text was written.
