Charismatic Revival Fury

cover art
The definitive resource on the New Apostolic Reformation. A rigorous and detailed investigation into the charismatic Christian movement at the forefront of Trumpism and the J6 riot, with ICJS Protestant scholar Matthew D. Taylor.

An Audio-Documentary Series on the Christian Leaders and Ideas that Fueled the Capitol Riot

The NAR is the most influential Christian phenomenon that you either haven’t heard of, or don’t understand. It is much discussed, but rarely explored in depth with a scholar’s insight and patience. Charismatic Revival Fury breaks through the myths in order to clearly present the origins of the fastest growing component of Christianity in the USA - and maybe the world - through its key figures: starting with C. Peter Wagner, then moving to Ché Ahn, Lance Wallnau, Cindy Jacobs, and Dutch Sheets. Along the way, we see how people like Sean Feucht, Gen. Michael Flynn, Doug Mastriano, and others fit into the NAR matrix.

Charismatic Revival Fury was written by Dr. Matthew D. Taylor. It was produced by Bradley Onishi and engineered by Scott Okamoto.

Dr. Matthew D. Taylor
Matthew D. Taylor, Ph.D., is a Senior Scholar and the Protestant Scholar at ICJS, where he specializes in Muslim-Christian dialogue, Evangelical and Pentecostal movements, religious politics in the U.S., and American Islam. Prior to coming to ICJS, Taylor served on the faculty of Georgetown University and The George Washington University. He is a member of the American Academy of Religion, the North American Association of Islamic and Muslim Studies. Taylor holds a Ph.D. in Religious Studies and Muslim-Christian Relations from Georgetown University and an M.A. in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. His book, Scripture People: Salafi Muslims in Evangelical Christians’ America (Cambridge University Press), offers an introduction to the oft-misunderstood Salafi movement in the U.S. by way of comparison with American Evangelicalism. He is also the creator of the acclaimed audio-documentary series “Charismatic Revival Fury: The New Apostolic Reformation,” which details how networks of extremist Christian leaders helped instigate the January 6th Insurrection. His next book, The Violent Take It By Force: The Christian movement that is threatening our democracy (Broadleaf Books), will be published in Fall 2024.
Dr. Bradley Onishi
Brad Onishi received graduate degrees from UCSB, Oxford University, and L’institut catholique de Paris. As a scholar of religion, he teaches and researches Christian nationalism, the history of Evangelicalism, race and racism in American religion, gender, sex, masculinity, and secularism and secularity. He has taught at UCSB, the Graduate Theological Union at UC Berkeley, Rhodes College, Skidmore College, Central Michigan University, Cal Lutheran University, and the University of San Francisco (current).

In 2018 he started the Straight White American Jesus podcast with his former Oxford colleague Dan Miller. SWAJ is a religion and politics podcast that focuses on Christian nationalism in the United States. Both Dan and Brad are former insiders within the movement, and so they share their lived experiences on topics such as gender, race, sex, nationalism, and so on. As scholars of religion, they have the training and tools to add layers to these experiences and to interview scholars and journalists who provide a critical lens to some of the most pressing issues of our day.

Brad’s book, Preparing for War: The Extremist History of White Christian Nationalism–And What Comes Next, appeared in January 2023. Using vignettes from his own life as a Christian nationalist, Brad unpacks the religious history that led us to the January 6 Insurrection – and charts a map of what will come next from the marriage of Christian nationalism and MAGA Nation.
