Soundcast Series 1 : The Electronic Collar

'Proper Use of the Electronic Collar' is a four day course offered through the Michael Ellis School for Dog Trainers. The curriculum is a thoughtful, in-depth, humane, and science-based resource for understanding, applying, and talking about the modern electronic dog training collar.

Throughout the course, and captured within this series of audio lectures, Michael discusses the tool in great detail, as both an incredibly useful and widely misunderstood piece of technology. The lectures are broken down by topic & subject matter but there are a few central themes that permeate: modern ecollar training is nuanced, governed by the science of learning theory, and in many situations has distinct advantages over other tools. Here at the school we are of the belief that educating ourselves as trainers and owners, and understanding both the benefits and potential pitfalls or the ecollar, are critical to its fair and effective use.

Within these soundcasts are the complete topic lectures from the course, including Q & A sessions with students. Follow them in order or pick and choose based on your needs and interest. Various are the ways the ecollar is being used in today's training with sport/working dogs, as well as pet/companion dogs. This resource is an honest conversation as well as a guide for planning to use the ecollar, and understanding why considering the individual dog, along with the right information, and your earnest effort as a trainer, is critical to helping you determine if, when, and how to properly use this tool should you choose.
