Ian Leighton
Ian Leighton is a professional horseman based in south eastern Tasmania, Australia. Together with his wife Liz they share a passion for horsemanship and education, with a focus on the principles of classical training.
His focus with over 40 years of experience, from starting young horses from their first handling,
to helping those with developed remedial behaviour, is in teaching people how to balance, soften and engage their horses, regardless of their ambitions - whether they be recreational riding, or performance-based competition.
Ian does not specialise in any “one type of horsemanship” or method but takes what he has learned from his exposure to many and varied ideas. His experience with thousands of horses and horse people enables him to deliver a philosophy and style that is adaptable enough to suit the circumstances arising from a horse’s current view on life and a rider’s ability, experience and ambitions.
