Reconciliation after infidelity shouldn’t mean blindly committing to save the relationship no matter what happens.
I think of reconciliation as a series of small wagers: you reach one milestone, evaluate what has actually changed, and then decide whether taking the next step makes sense. That also means both people need to know their off-ramps—the point where continuing to fight for the relationship no longer makes sense.
In this video, I break down what bad-faith reconciliation can look like from both sides. For the unfaithful partner, that might mean minimizing, trickle truth, rushed apologies, or treating transparency like punishment. For the betrayed partner, it can mean using the affair as a permanent trump card, setting traps, continually moving the goalposts, or turning accountability into punishment.
