How to Go Out on a High Note: Seinfeldian Philosophy Psychology Hack Want to make a good impression and end on a high note? Try the concept made famous in a Seinfeld episode - the one where George Costanza goes out on a high note. In the episode, which aired in March of 1998 , George tries to get his boss Mr. Kruger to work during their meetings, using a technique taught to him by Jerry - and instead Kreuger makes silly comments and walks off on a high-note just like George previously did, leaving George with a mountain of paperwork. But in real life, the "go out on a high note" concept is pretty solid, and there is psychological information to back it up. This works because as a rule, people remember the first and last things you do. This is also true when someone hears a list or when there is a series of events - it's REALLY called the Serial Positioning Effect. That "effect" happens to be an incredibly often researched concepts in varying iterations in psychology. Basically, it means that when it comes to items in a list, we tend to remember the things at the start and at the end.
